Dean Sittig, PhD, NORC at the University of Chicago (NORC) Senior Fellow and Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, is a Co-Investigator of the CDSiC Project and serves as Chair for the Innovation Core, Measurement and Value of CDS. Sittig's research interests center on the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of clinical information and communication systems, with a special emphasis on CDS. He has spent considerable time studying various aspects of computer-based provider order entry with clinical decision support, including factors that lead to success, as well as the unintended consequences of their use. Most recently, Sittig has focused his efforts on developing guidelines for the safe and effective implementation and use of EHRs, based on an eight-dimension, socio-technical model developed with Hardeep Singh, MD, MPH, at the Baylor College of Medicine. This work led to the development of the Safety Assurance Factors for EHR Resilience (SAFER) guides, designed to help healthcare organizations conduct proactive risk assessments of their EHRs.
